best eating duck?

Postby duckjumper » Tue Jan 03, 2006 12:02 pm

OK all: What are the best-tasting ducks out there and what are the worst? My vote:

Best - green teal
Worst - merganser
I love all of God's creatures, properly prepared.

Ha!!!! I have never shot or eaten a canvasback but I heard they are awesome. For me I go with teal, mallards, then widgeon. As far as divers redheads are the best eating in my area.

I'll have to diagree with everyone. I think that a woodduck is the best eating because where I am, they feed on nothing but acorns.

My favorite eating are Teal. They are easy and quick to grill, just takes a lot to eat them.

Worst. I don't know. I have some spoonies in the frig now. I'll tell you next week.
Have you ever woke up one day and said. Damn when does the season start.

I got a few canvasbacks this year, and I'll have to say they so far are the best duck I've eaten. The meat was very tender and moist. With that said, I've never cooked bad duck. I've cooked up widgeons, gadwalls, mallards, and woodducks and they're all good to me.

Any puddle duck marinaded in Italian dressing for an hour or more, seasoned with Duck Commander Zesty seasoning, and grilled to medium/medium-rare.

Woodies are the best for me. Small and tender. Still trying to make duck taste less like duck though.

My favorite way to cook them is pluck, stuff with stuffing, bake in oven, throw away duck, eat stuffing.

I can't say I've ever eaten a bad duck, although I've never had any diver duck. But my favorite is either teal or wood ducks.

I eat them all pretty much the same.........I don't find there's that much difference between a scaup and a young gadwall hen.

I'd have to say the best eating is teal but theyr just so small sure would be nice if they were 3 times their size and still tasted just as good.
