I have never taken the time to pluck a pheasent or grouse. I love fried chicken with the skin on, and was thinking that trying the same thing with uplands would be good. Has anyone tried this?
Yes, and it is worth it but difficult. Pheasant skin, for example, is very thin compared to duck skin and can rip. I have had some success by melting wax in hot water, dipping the bird by the head into the wax/water, cooling it off then plucking the bird that way. You'll need to pluck the biggest feathers out first, by the way.
Never done a quail.
