White worms in Meat?

Postby lagunaduck » Wed Dec 13, 2006 4:15 pm

After cleaning a couple of ducks this weekend, I discovered white striations in the meat that appear to be worms. It reminds of what would be found in the flesh of fish. Does anybody have any insight? Is this common? (I have never encountered this before) Is it still safe to eat?

It's called Sarcocystis

I wouldn't eat it, but I have heard of people cooking it and eating it.

Thanks for the link. I will not eat the meat even though proper cooking will kill the parasite. Not very appetizing!
