Coot recipes.

Postby MissPriss » Sat Dec 14, 2013 1:45 pm

Many choose not to eat coot but those of us that do know they are missing out. I'm interested to know how others cook theirs. I marinate mine in Dale sauce for an hour then coat in shake and bake pork recipe and fry them up with some taters, corn, gravy n biscuit, man your mouth will water. Coot has a chicken liver like taste it's a shame so many choose not to eat them.

BBQ sauce, crockpot. Nothin too fancy, but the looks on the gang's face when they have it is priceless. And when they have to admit that it really is pretty good, makes it all worth it.

Dales sauce over night, coat them in slap your mama seasoning. Wrap with a piece of bacon and snake them applying BBQ for an hour. I'll usually take them and through them on the grill to get a nice crisp finish to the bacon.

So they look something like this:

The only time I had them was this season a buddy cooked some up. He soaked them in orange juice for a half hour then cooked them on a propane griddle that had bacon grease on it from that morning's breakfast. I'm sure it wasn't healthy but it tasted like venison to me. It was way better tasting than the ringneck he cooked at the same time. I was very surprised after several people on here bashing coot with how bad they taste. Wish we would have shot more that morning.
