Painting new boat motor

Postby hoppy » Sat Nov 12, 2005 4:03 pm

I just bought a new 25hp engine . Should I paint it to match my boat or keep using the motor cover which is just something else to bring along. If i should paint it what and how would be the best way to do it so the paint wont chip off easily? Thanks

Well I personally couldn't just sand down a brand new motor and paint away  But if that trips your trigger by all means start sanding shoot some primer then throw on some paint, but I'd really just go with a motor cover

You can always go the camo clad way which should work out just fine for you or you can go the way I went. I called a local boat shop and bought an old used cowling. I sanded it down and went after it with a grass stencil.

tuf-duc, why do you reccomend the removable? i pulled the entire transom area of my boat off, and it was the permanent, all you need is a heat gun. must people who comment on camo clad don't like the removable.

.
I personally own 4 boats .... 2 of which are dedicated to Duck Hunting and the other 2 are strictly for fishing and pleasure boating.

My train of thought has always been ... that instead of painting up the motors to blend-in with my hunting background ... and commit that engine to eternal camoflage .... I would rather keep my investment diversified and just put a camoflage cover over it.

When I get to my chosen location for hunting waterfowl I simply shroud the engine with one of the cheap $2.00 camoflage pillow cases that sre sold at Cabellas or Gander Mountain.

My contention is this ..... if and when I decide to sell that motor ... since I have not comitted it to remain focused as a camoflaged motor for hunting ... I now have (2) additional potential consumer groups in which to sell it too.

1) Fisherman .. for their boats ..
2) Pleasure boaters for whatever their usage

Beleive me ... I have owned and have sold enough boats ... to figure out how to protect my investment.

... just my .02 cents ..

.
.
Cheap-Azz ... Rather spend it on decoy's club!

I would just get a camo case.
The group ended up with 420 birds.
