Jon Boat With A 40hp MAybe??

Postby Mallard Machine » Thu Nov 24, 2005 3:16 pm

MY buddy owns a 16 foot jon boat and with 2 guys a dog, gear and our boat blind the 20hp doesn't have good pick up. Would it be a good idea to throw a new 40 hp on it??

Sure why not, I have been in a few jons, 1 a 17' with a 65/40 jet and that boat needed more power for sure, putting a 40 on a 16 would be fine I think and should move ya right along

First off, what's the boat rated for? That right there will tell you the largest motor to stick on it. Especially if you want insurance on the boat. With that said, I've seen plent of 16 footers with 40 horse motors on them. I also own I 16' 6" Lowe with a 60 horse on it.

It also depends on if its a flat bottom, semi v, or v hull.
