thought this site was for information purposes. the guys looking for advice, why does that make him a freeloading dbag? I saw he posted this before, but he never really got any helpful advice on the original posting.
anyway, to the op, use the dhc search form and look up things like "best duck boat" " boat for 3 guys" etc. and see if this topic has been covered before. if so, read the past posts. if not, then ask away.
regardless, you will probably want a boat about 16-18ft long(48-60" wide bottom) depending upon weight of guys(2 guys 16ft boat is fine, 3-4guys and I would look at 18ft), load you will be carrying and if you plan on hunting out of the boat or just using it to get you to a blind. if hunting out of it with 3 guys, get an 18ft boat. if just using it to transport to a blind with 2 and occassionly a third guy, then a 16-17 ft boat will work(my phowler is a 1648 and will transport three guys without a problem with a 25hp outboard, but the boat would be cramped hunting three guys out of it). if it is a dedictated duck boat, I would suggest a welded flatbottom(for durability and getting into shallower areas than a mod v will allow you to go). look at a hull thickness of .100 or thicker.
phowler makes a really nice boat, I have one and use an outboard with it because I make long runs in deeper water like lakes and rivers. however, there are other manufacturers of good boats, you just have to figure out how much you have to spend and what looks good to you. then, search the boat brands and read the reviews. I use my phowler with an outboard. i only run to shallow for an outboard on rare occasions. with an outboard in shallow drive, I can still cruise in really shallow water, and i can still get it to float in shallow water 5 inches deep to pole it the final distance to the blind/shore in low water conditions. do not go with a surface drive engine unless you will really be running in water less than 4 ft for the majority of your trip. if not , go with an outboard until you have more experience and decide you need a mud motor.
