Need help on a long tail mud motor

Postby Joe fitz » Wed Nov 06, 2013 6:47 am

so i have a 10ft lowe jon boat and i have been running a 50 lb thrust minkota on it and im tired of having to take the extra hour to get to my spots either hunting or fishing. So i found a great trade for a long tailed 9hp mud motor. The weight of the motor and gas isn't much more then the weight of the minkota and a huge marine battery so im not worried about the weight to much, even though i no im way over the weight capacity. I have been running this boat fully loaded for hunting and fishing for years and never had a problem. Im just worried about the hp, has any one else put a 9 horse on a 10ft?

Have a 9 ft Lowes jon boat , run a 6.5 hp swamp runner with no problems . The weight of the mud motor is 75 lbs . I think you'll be fine . I also put decoys and a dog , boat to small for another person .

If it's a Godevil 9 hp I wouldn't do it. I ran one years ago. A 140 lb motor might be a tad heavy for a 10' boat.

What does the motor weigh???

I have had a customer mount a 62 lb 7 HP long tail on a 8' Final Attack, the one with wheels on the back. He loved it.
