Ideas/thoughts on steering systems

Postby bubba1 » Sat Nov 23, 2013 6:29 pm

Not a good day duck hunting, guy before me at the launch, swamped his boat, not sure how, but about 1/4 full of water, I go to put in, start the motor, but cann't turn the steering wheel at all, won't move. I get out of the way, but really leaning on it and it breaks.

So, now I have to replace the entire steering system. The boat is 28' with a 175hp on the back, had the teleflex rack system about three or four years old and liked it until this year, all season it's been hard to turn.

Thinking about upgrading to a hydraulic system, but concerned over the oil, pump and cold weather.

Anybody use one, what's your thoughts?

Thanks

On demand Hydraulic is the only way to go. I have it on my CC and it's great. The cold water doesn't seem to efect the steering at all. I wouldn't run teleflex cable on a boat again.

Good Luck,
