Hey Guys - I'm trying to remove the lower unit on my 2002 Johnson 25 HP. I've disconnected the shift linkage but the top brass screw is hanging up when I try to lower it.
Any ideas on what I need to do or how to get that top brass screw off

There is a plastic keeper on it. Gotta take it off. Its kind of a pain in the ass. Also make sure you have the nut off on the front of the lower unit.

that brass screw has to be totally removed. . move the crap lever to get a good look at it. there is a indentation on the shift rod that it goes through. a good place to see how to do this is on u tube. many videos showing how to do it.

It disconnects inside the plastic water intakes, two nuts then a plastic keeper with a slit in it. Be careful they fly when taking them off. Use a sm pick like ice pick to pry apart. When keeper is off top nut will slide off shift shaft and you can take it off.
