1975 Johnson 15 hp value?

Postby calebmac » Thu Jan 02, 2014 9:14 am

Trying to sell this boat motor and don't know where to start.
Model #: 15E75C
It's electric start. Probably needs a little tune up, but it still runs fine.
I don't know the compression in the cylinders.

I was asking $500, but don' t know if that is fair or not?

Thanks in advance guys.

It's worth what someone will pay for it. There is still a market for them but realistic maybe a couple hundred at best, sell it on Craigs list someone will pay the $500. The local boat dealer had maybe 10 or 11 of them on stands and ran anywhere form $150- $200. All in working shape but he couldn't give them away.

If it was run in salt water maybe $100, freshwater depending on shape $100-$300 at most.39 years old
There are still things worth dying for and 1 of those things is freedom.

It's in good shape to be that old in my opinion. I wouldn't sell it to a dealer, b/c they will just turn around and sell it for more. And it was run in freshwater. No salt water in North MS.
I didn't know if there was still a market for small 2 stroke motors like this. Thanks for the input guys! I appreciate it.

Yes, there's a market for small two strokes. Just don't know if there's a market for one that old. You know; parts availability and stuff like that.... If it were mine, I'd put it up at "$300 OBO".

They sure don't go for $100 around here. Two-strokes still have some advantages over the newer four-strokes, most notably lighter weight, and if it's in good condition, there's no reason it wouldn't be a good, dependable motor. We don't have salt water around here, so that's not an issue, and most outboards don't really get run enough to become worn out. If it's in good cosmetic condition it would probably go for three or four hundred here. I'm not sure what the electric start would do to the value; it's a little unusual on such a small motor of that age, and it takes away some of the previously mentioned weight advantage, especially when you add in the weight of a starting battery.

I appreciate the input guys. Helps a lot.

I will likely lower the price a little.

It is electric, but it has a pull start if one would prefer to not have the battery.

Thanks again guys.
