Need Advice

Postby widuckhunter1 » Mon Jan 13, 2014 12:14 pm

We are purchasing a 14' jon boat this weekend and are planning on upgrading to a longtail for it. I have had many people tell me that when it comes to rough situations that the hp of the motor is a big deal. So im just curious what hp longtails you would suggest for the boat? Thanks!

What's the width at the bottom (1436/1448)?

I would put a 14 HP robin engine on that with a 1 1/2 to 1 reduction to the prop if the hull is at least 36" wide on the flat part of the bottom. If it is a 32" wide bottom that might be a tad too much motor. If it is a 48 " wide bottom then mabey up to a 25 HP motor.
