Need a new boat but need help finding one.

Postby Jbuck » Sat May 10, 2014 11:30 pm

I am in the market for a new jon boat. I have a 40hp motor and trailer already so that kind limits my options.

I have been looking for something in the 1652 range but I want something with slightly higher sides that weight too much.
It has to be a dual purpose boat that will fish and hunt. The fishing will be on medium sized lakes and protected bays. The hunting is mostly tidal areas so minimal draft and weight are important.

Fishing will be with my 10yo son and hunting will be 2 or 3 guys.

I just discribed two different boats, but need the best combination.

I would like a Jon with a modV but can't find any with sides that are taller then 21" that don't weight a ton.

So far I'm looking at a War Eagle 648dlv and a G3 1652 or 1756VBW, but looking for other options.

I am in the same boat. Lol. I am trying to find something that I can put my 25 hp Kruger surface drive on. I need something that can handle bigger water as we'll but I can't find anything that has deeper walls for the big water

Might have to do that. I just sold my 16' flat bottom skiff because it weighted too much (1,200lbs). It was just too much of a good thing when it came to dragging it back to the channels with the dropping tides. I wish I could get a lightweight 1448 jon and a skiff, but I'm pretty sure if I get two boats my wife will make my life miserable.

Jbuck, I try to only have one sickness and my wife has learned to put up with 2 jetboats, a scull boat and a Lake Bonneville layout boat. Some day I am adding a bad azz airboat too! I tell her a guy can have worse addictions........then she starts in on the 30 dozen decoys, full gun safe etc. Oh well.....
