Question on Merc motor

Postby bubba1 » Sat Oct 08, 2005 6:42 pm

This may sound dumb, but does a mercury have a generator or alternator on the motor. What I am getting at, does it recharge the battery, while it running? I have a 1989 Mec 45.

Thanks.

If my 25 horse Merc does than I can bet your 45 does too.

An easy solution would be to call a Mercury dealership and have them check in their books. Also, you can just pull the cowling off and look. In my experience if it has electric start then most likely it has an alternator.

The electric start is exactly what i thought, so I did take the cowling off, but did see an alternator or generate. And the starter is a true starter, not like on some old lawnmowers where is does both.
