ok so this may sound like a stupid question, but why do people use red eyes in their wood duck mounts?... the ones i have shot have yellow eyes... is it just a different kind of wood duck or ?
Down here in Mississippi the drakes have red eyes and the hens have yellow, and every reference photo I have ever seen shows the same. I think I read somewhere that the eye color can vary though.
Yeah but here is one of his.. you can't really tell in this picture, but all of the ones around here (including this one) are more of a yellowish color for some reason?
also check out the drake woody on the "this years wall mounters" in the puddler forum looks almost exactly like mine... http://www.duckhuntingchat.com/viewtopic.php?t=13680
i was just wondering if they are different in different parts of the country or ? because i have never really seen one with a red eye until i started looking around on here....
i have killed some of both. it may have something to do with genetics, but over half i killed this year had yellow eyes and my taxidermist said he had never seen any that color.
