Postby cinnamon » Wed Dec 28, 2011 9:43 pm

Seen this in California hunting forum. Curious to what type of duck this greenwing is crossed with.

Bill, feet, and nearly all the body feathers tell me Pintail. I could be wrong, just my 2 cents..............

Noy any Baikal Teal in that. Look at the tail, upper tail coverts, greater upper wing coverts, speculum and tertails. Greenwing/Pintail. Baikals have very elongated tertails and even though the head looks somewhat Baikalish it's not crossed with that. Every captive raised Pintail/Greenwing looks like that that I have seen and have seen a couple of wild shot ones also. Also compare the size of the bird with the Pintails underneath it. Baikals also have a tail shaped like any of the other Teal species and the elongated tail certainly isn't from any Teal.

U need to look at those two birds again. Not even close to the same feather patterns and colors, especially on the body. The head is what is giving you that idea. No way there is bluewing in the original posted bird. Pintail and Greenwing all the way.

I agree with most of yall. 110% pintail/gw. No doubt about it, id bet anything on it, looks pretty obvious to me, the body is shaped almost exactly like a pintail just smaller like a teal. That is a freaking amazing kill! You BETTER be PUTTING him on the WALL or i will SLAP YOU

Could be a three way cross, just never know now days. The larger size could indicate some pintail, but not saying the parent was not a hybrid already. I say GW/BW/pinnie cross
