My newest project, first ducks.

I got these three ringnecks this past season with this very project in mind. They aren't completely done, nor perfect for that matter, but I'm happy with my attempt.

Thanks for the compliment, but the ringnecks are the only ones that are mine. The others are customers birds that my buddy is working on. I dabble in his shop from time to time. Everyone, if they can, should get the chance to mount at least one of their own birds. It gives new appreciation for what goes into it. The Redhead was done some years earlier by someone else, bugs have eaten the feet and he's re-building the webs.

Well heres the finished product. I like it, probably could be better, but for a first time doing three at once...I think they look "ok". I also had a Bluebill hen that I just finished. For a hen I think she's a great looking bird. Alot of folks don't like divers, I think they are nice looking birds. The base she's on is basic, haven't decided on the finished product yet. I'll let ya know later. Here's some pics.

Thanks for the nice encouragement guys. Appreciated, greatly! I think the next one will be a flying Mallard drake. I kept two nice specimans from last year. I'm kinda shy about going at it. I've watched at least a hundred mallards go through the process, I'm amazed at how much FAT there is on a mallard. Kinda scared about not de-fleshing all the little fat pockets on them and getting the nice smell and drip that follows. Plus, how can a bird this hearty have paper like skin? Crazy! But..no guts no glory..right? I'll be starting one soon and I'll post it up.

not bad. how much taxidermy have you done? that teal mount is a nice one, a variation on the "flat against the wall-one wing up, one wing down" mounts that I used to despise. very nice.

The teal aren't mine. Those were done for a customer of my buddy. It's his shop that I'm learning in. My exp. is what ya see in the other photos. I've also done some fish, but as waterfowl goes, just the three Ringnecks and the Bluebill. But as you noted, yes the teal are nice. Very nice, as is everything he puts together. One of those teal was so badly shot up, I'm not even sure I would of eaten it, but his artistic talent comes through again. Once it was done, you couldn't even pick out the bird that had been shot up.
Thanks for the compliments. Appreciate it.
