New mounts

Postby Yellowdog38 » Thu Jul 27, 2006 4:28 pm

I've had a bunch of ducks go out of the shop recently, & thought I'd post up some of my favorite poses. I have been doing nothing but birds for the last month, so I had to break it up with a week of just fish. My wife just curls her nose & points to the bathroom when I come inside, although the cat has taken an interest in me.Image Image Image

The Woodie looks especially nice! Looks like it's in a very life-like position. Swans are sure fun aren't they? Fleshing is a blast, and trying to get the grit out of their feathers after the tumbler is great! I really like the positioning on your tails on the Swan and Woodie. They really look like they're going to "drop in".

Thanks for the compliments. Yea Pete, swans are alot of fun :hammering: . I quit tumbling my birds about a year ago, one of the many advantages is not having to blow and pick all the grit out. As far as the pintail, he is all pintail. I guess that blue background washes out the blue in his bill, should have used burgandy backdrop. The customer wanted that woodie in a standard banking pose, but he was missing a large patch of feathers above his right scapulars. After fighting with the mount for a couple of hours I sat down with my reference book and found this pose and removed the support wire and re-inserted and posed. Client was very pleased. I hate having to make a change like that, but so far they have all worked out.

Yellowdog38 has done five mounts for me and I have had nothing but compliments on all of them. I have had mounts done by others, but from now on I will be carrying everything to him. Hopefully my wife will have something for him this year. If you are in Eastern NC check him out at www.norristaxidermy.com, you want be sorry that you did.
