first band dilemma

Postby quack wackr » Tue Oct 09, 2012 6:34 pm

hey guys just looking for som ideas on what to do with my first band. i shot a canada with a jack miner band on it on monday, ( its my first ). but theres a problem,i would have mounted it but the bird was very young, the white patches on its face wernt even completley white yet. and since i would be mounting it myself i did not fee;in like dealing with all those pin feathers , and it had a badley broken wing. so i just thopped the leg off grabbed the band and ate the bird instead. i want some special way to display with having it on the mounted bird. i have some good field pics of me with the bird so im thinking about some kind of plaque with the pictures and the band, if anyone has anything like this or any unique way of displaying a band other then on a bird id love to see them ! thanks alot

Get your favorite pic of it on a plaque and open the band up and smash it flat so you can attatch it to the plaque

When you call, you may end up talking with Kirk who is Jack's grandson. The original band program had bible versus on them because Jack Miner thought of the birds as "missionaries" of the sky. Pretty neat paperwork that goes with em. Thought in a million years I wouldn't shoot one. They are rare and a great trophy.

I've hunted with Kirk and was a nice guy to reminisce with about Jack. Wild Goose Jack is a great read about the life and times of Jack Miner and his Geese. I killed the first of the 5 Miner Bands I have in 1963.

Maybe make a cool frame of you and the bird pic with the band on a nice hickory twig that is on the frame.....
Never heard of Miner.

The internet wasn't invented when I killed my first one! Subsequent ones were reported by mail or phone.
