Went out today and shot a canvasback drake and a pintail drake. the pintail has beautiful color and a long tail but the canvas back is a little more exoctic to my area. what one should i mount.

I would go with the Can, I just shot one today (also v rare in my area) and I just have to do it. I dont know what those other guys were talking about somebody seeing a can and just shooting it. The one I shot appears to have good plumage. Bright white, perfect gray and a fuzzy red neck.

If you are undecided, I'd mount both. Another option is to mount one now and have your taxidermist skin and wash the other, when frozen in this wet state it will keep for many years in the freezer until you decide to have it mounted.

pintail, i have hunted for 12 years and never shot a pintail in my area and only one drake in my life. You can get cans in ND every year. our group of 6 got 12 in one week this year.

How much should it cost to mount a Mallard drake or any other duck for that matter? I was thinking about having one mounted this year.

well, then it would be worth my time to drive up to Mo and bring em to ya. I will mount more birds for prices like that.
If ya don't like being peppered, don't set up near my spread..!!!!!
