I like the first one better. I feel like it shows off the plumage much better. But both look awesome.

I like the flying one the best. That's a beautiful looking mount!

I like the first better. I had my black done like the second pic and wished like hell that I didn't. Just doesn't show off the back enough for me.

First. Like said above it shows the plummage better and being a table mount you can position it at any angle in any spot in the house. The wall mount is cool but eliminates half the duck from view.

I really like the first mount but what really bothers me about the first mount is that black ducks don't have a orange bill with black splotching. That bill belongs on a hen mallard.

I like the first one. I've shot some black ducks, and even when they decoy well have never seen the second pose. Also, consider a flushing mount.

Those are both great looking mounts.

Here's mine. Like it a lot, bill color is a little off but, for $125 I'm not complaining.

That Black Duck bill is as close to the actual color that I have seen....nice mount.

And yes, the bill in the first pic it from a hen mallard....oddly enough, the same taxidermist did both mounts....I think both poses are pretty cool, I'm just going to have to figure out where it's going to go, and then figure it out...I may do a dead mount with it and a nice big green head....

I have a pair mounted in landing profiles, Lower one wings down and the upper one has wings up. Both looking at same spot. They are mounted together. just FYI...mauser

If you look carefully at the first one (the preening position) the bird appears to be a mallard/black cross. On the outstretched wing there is a slight amount of white at the edge of the speculum which a full black does not have, hence the orange bill as well.

As for a good mount I personally like a preening pose but with the duck resting or laying on it's belly versus standing. This gives one to show the plumpness of the bird plus a full view of the back and the wing/speculum...unless it has a band where you'd definitely want to show it off.
