Antler Question

Postby Frank Lopez » Sat Nov 02, 2013 3:00 pm

I have several sets of whitetail deer antlers with the skull plates. I have one that is particularly unusual that I'd like to mount outside on the garage. My question is this, should I put something on the antlers to deter weathering or degradation? I realize tis has little to do with ducks, but I figure it's worth a shot.

Thanks,

Frank
I feel slightly sorry for a man who has never patterned his gun, who has no idea how far his chosen load will retain killing penetration. But I'm extremely sorry for the ducks he shoots at beyond the killing range of his gun and load - Bob Brister

It will absolutely wreak havoc on them over time. I personally have a serious antler addiction and the only antlers I have outside are ones that were already weathered when I acquired them. They will bleach out and then eventually start to crack and even be bendable in some cases over a long period.
