Was just wondering if you prefer to tan your birds or dry preserve them with borax. i'm going to mount my first bird and i bought the breakthrough taxidermy manual to help me get started. i was prepared to do my mount the "right" way and degrease, pickle, and tan my skin, but i've been reading on the net that alot of guys actually prefer using the borax method. just wondering what you guys think. thanks!

Right way? Wrong way? I'm not sure. The common way is Borax or an alternate dry preservative. You should do it as well. There is a lot of negativity surrounding the tanning issue. I have nothing good or bad to say about it, because I've never used it. It may be as cool as sliced bread, just don't have any idea to how it works.

:withstupid: I have only done a few birds, and all of them have been done Boraxo. Have fun and enjoy.
