Canvasback bluebill hybrid

What do you think. I looks like a canvasback but its back is grey and has a white patch underneath its bill. Also the primary feather vanes are black.

In my opinion, I say it is an early season canvasback, and not a hybrid.

I agree. It looks like there are some black feathers on the chest beginning to come in. Hybrids show characteristics of the parents and don't just become a totally different color. A blue bill would have a black chest also ....

Drake cans have a white spot underneath their bills

When did you shoot it? Looks like an early season bird to me

Canvassbacks are some of the latest birds to feather out so being a November bird makes sense with the coloration.... Or lack there of

Probably an immature bird. I shot a few redheads the first week of December that still didn't have any color. Probably a late hatch
