With the small picture shown, I would have said I wouldn't have been scared to take him the goose. Just bad results an a tough bird.

Sorry for your experience.

Yes, but I still see some of the same problems with the thin neck and lack of crop at breast, neck and head junction. Still looks, from this picture, that the skin is taxied back instead of forward. JMO

Agree Pat, but I was looking at it through the average person's eyes. Most people don't know the same people we may know....including some who don't need to advertise their wares. I think we forget that there are far fewer great taxidermists than average to plain poor taxidermists. LOL

Like I said in a previous post. I think we both know without a second thought who we would send a goose to, and I would bet with near certainty, it would be the same guy!

Agree Pete, would go to Utah or Illinois for sure. Both are above great.

WCBM8D, keep in mind fling birds are somewhat easier to pull off, IMO, than standing birds where anatomical accuracy is most important. This is especially in Geese and more especially with a collared one. I wouldn't hesitate to take the bird back and express your dissatisfaction. As all have agreed you got a raw deal.

Not intending to hijack comments, but I'd love to take you swan hunting if you ever came through Utah.

Sorry for the loss of your trophy. I just had a chance to read this thread. It is bad. Way too much neck. Get the replacement bird and give that one back minus the collar. Get your money back too

I agree head and neck on both are dead give always he isn't a bird guy or Atleast a good one.

Pete, if that was Pat's goose I bet he would have done it himself

I also agree that the majority of people getting stuff mounted really don't know good/great quality work from subpar work. Odds are they are just used to seeing what is on their deer guy's shop wall and classify that as good . I have a friend so happy to pay his deer guy 100 a bird to end up with nothing more than a pile of feathers on the wall. Too bad more don't shop for quality over just putting something on the wall . Would you buy an ugly painting just because it was on sale

Brian, Pat is not above having a bird mounted by a top notch guy. The comment was made because Pat and I were privileged to see a recent white-fronted goose that was mounted by someone you know, and it was perfect...like everything he does.

Also want to mention matter of factly, that Pat actually had a pintail mounted by this same taxidermist, that was equally stunning.

You are right, Pat would likely mount his own bird, but if he was shopping around, he could pick very easily from a short list.
