I am new to this field, and am trying to learn the basics before I spend
$$$ on supplies. What is the difference between skinning and fleshing? is fleshing removing the meat from the skin after it is
skinned? or am I way off, Thanks.
Fleshing is removing, mostly fat, some meat from the skin. If the the bird is not properly fleshed {defatted} it will begin to leak oil and stink after being mounted, you need to remove ALL the fat, it can be done with scissors, but is a very slow process. I fleshed several ducks that way and after my first goose, I bought a fleshing wheel. IMO that is the only way to go...but do a couple and see if something you will stick with before spending the money
Thanks Jake, That is what I thought but not sure, I will attempt the
scissor method before I spend my $$$$
