A Franklin's spruce grouse I put together today. I learned a great deal by watching my mentor Eugene Streekstra. He's an upland master as far as I'm concerned, and makes it look very easy.
Turkey season around the corner, so a half strut bird in dedication to the season a few of us here LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Man, I'm going to have to cross some upland birds off my list one of these years. We have a few spruce in MN but never really hunting them. Same goes for huns and sharptails

Brian, I'm crossing them all off the list. I am going to get the other spruce and ptarmigan from Alaska next, otherwise I have them. Ruffed, woodcock, and Hungarian (non-native) in the freezer, and coming up next.
It's all good guys! I did sort of give up on hunting them, being obsessed with deer. I remember why. Deer hunting is by yourself, and hunting ducks is with a group. If this is a reminder of the group I'd hunt with, I need to stick to deer hunting lol!
You know we should do a hunt together. I have shot many birds to be honest, most ugly birds that anyone from the upper Midwest (Beretta Brian) can relate to. I've done some great hunts, but it doesn't have that appeal it once did as I started filling the collection. Now, I look at this collection similar to a salt and pepper shaker collection. I'd like to get one of them all. I'm sort of a bird whore....and so are the rest of you!
I really do like my archaic methods. I won't tell you how much money I have in that grouse, because most of you know. The ability to recreate everything from nothing adds to the element of this craft. I've used all the modern stuff, but most of that is simply easy and often unnecessary. I work 161 days a year. I play the other 204. I have nothing but time. Have you seen some of these manikins lately? Muscles added to the form, you'll never see once the bird is mounted?
Anyway, I'm looking forward to Beretta Brian mounting up some birds. Looking forward to that harlequin for darned sure!
Well my AK trip got postponed a year. hoping Brian can get that Crane hunt together. Then one of the outfitter for MX changed their rules and not for the better. Buddy wants to go up to prince Edward island and got a few invites for Cali. Then have a taxi class in TX and was hoping to do some hunting down there if possible. Really wanting to chase some geese on my list.

the one place only allows you to ditch hunt one time per trip per person. That accounted for a boat load of birds(1/2) when I went. On top of the issues I had I could only recommend one outfitter for down there
