Tyvek Sleeves???

Postby Blackfoot down » Mon Feb 13, 2012 8:06 pm

Has anyone tried this for making snow rags? Looks like they would be easy to sew one end shut, touch of spray paint, and add stakes....

At $64.95 for two hundred, that would be very reasonable add two packs of HS wooden stakes for about $70 buck...You got a cheap sread started!!!

I also found a roll of Tyvek 3' x 165' at Home Depot for $63.58. I figure at 20 inches long, you could make close to a hundred rags. It would make a good summer project along with repainting the boat, washing decoys, rebuild blinds, etc...............

Any thoughts??????

I seen those epics on hunting snows, he put collars in them and recommended not sewing the end shut but he was making a northwind style headlass sock not a silosock. I have thought about trying it and using insulation supports for stakes a guy could have 1000 dekes for 300 bucks or so plus the cost of whatever other materials you use. I would love to see a pic of someones version of a sillosock made with these as I have a great source of pioneer seed signs.

The cut out opening of the sleeves might be too small for the decoy to fly well. Besides 2 grommets makes all the work easier for the backbone.
My suggestion is to buy tyvek snow goose decoys. The price is almost the same or even lower.

I just ordered a 200 pack of tyvek sleeves. And a seperate order of 200 3' dowels. Cost approx 100 for both. Bought cheap spray paint to paint the wings and s roll of galv wire i bent for banding material. Dont use glue or sew, just cut open one end staple the banding mat- tahdah! Time consuming though....
