I have a question about species mixing on the ground and hence your decoy spreads. I have friends that swear you must put your honker decoys some distance from your snow goose spreads. They also tend to want to group our spec decoys away from them as well in their own little family. I would like to see what everybody thinks about keeping seperate or mixing goose decoy spreads!
I like separating them like to put 3 groups at the head of the spread. If you watch the birds on the ground you will see snows in one area and specs off to the side. From what I have seen.
My observation has been that early in the season you can get by with mixing a dozen or less snows in 4-5 dozen Canadas but as the numbers increase they will keep their distance. I'll usually intermix them on one edge the opposite side of my landing zone so the Canadas don't have to fly over them.
We mix specks in with our snows. Usually put the honkers towards the back of the spread if we even put them out
