Custom goose calls

Postby MNWaterfowler22 » Wed Aug 01, 2012 7:14 am

Hey Peeps, usually spend most of my time on the duck forum but since the season is almost here and I just lined up some goose hunting fields better get started on goose calling. I am looking at some custom goose call makers and I have it narrowed down to a few call makers. Just wanted to know what everyone thinks about them. I am looking for something easy to run and goosey as all get out. The list of callmakers include: Gander Valley, Lynch mob, and Field Proven...any information on any of them would be great and which call from their lineup would be a good novice call to purchase. I do have some time behind a goose call just not as much as a duck call.

MNW - I just ordered a Gander Valley XXX, should be arriving in the mail today. I'm going to be chasing dark geese for the first time this season so I wanted a good call that I could learn on but that I wouldn't outgrow either. I'm a pretty quick study with calls and I'm willing to put the time in to practice, so I didn't really want a "beginners" call. That said, I did a lot of research online and sifted through reviews on here as well as reached out to DHC guys that had posted about the calls that interested me. I narrowed it down to the XXX for ease of use, versatility and the sound that I thought I was looking for. After talking to Mark at Gander Valley I think I made the right choice. He was very helpful and has offered me free lessons over the phone when I get my call. I certainly intend to take him up on the offer. Hope this helps!

Not sure I would consider any of those companies "custom" call makers, but they all have great products that would fit what you are looking for. I haven't tried very many lynch mobs, but I've tried out the FP Matrix and a pile of the GV calls. I really like the GV hybrid and the GV XXX. If you want a true "custom" call, give Mike a call at C & S Custom calls. Minnesota company!

Though not a collector, I currently find myself owning Canada calls from five different shops and still contemplating adding a blackwood Gander Valley XXX to the litter because my hedge XXX is so slick.

But as is the case with any call, your physiology, methodology and tone preferences may vary...
If you think I'm wrong, you might be right.

This X2 ... I will agree with most so far get a hold of Mark at GVCC, you won't be disappointed the entire line up he offers is top shelf. The guy is a full time waterfowl guide has been for years and years, and he is one of the best I have hunted with. I seen him in action, why I started to use his call to be honest. When we booked the hunt I didn't know who he was and never heard of his company. I travel each season to a new part of the country to do some "Fowlin" and this guy is a goose whisperer. He used to turn all his calls on his own lathes but when you sell thousands of call it is hard to do. I have tried several other calls from your list ...trust me give the GVCC line up a chance and compare.

Get a hold of mark at Gander Valley like so many have already said, they have the best goose calls in my opinion. I own a few of each and he has a good thing going, matched with great service.

I was just going to add Cold Front Calls to the list... I absolutely love my Alberta Clipper; I'm probably going to have to buy another one to hunt with because mine is too nice to put on a lanyard!

Cold Front Calls

Does anyone make a nicer looking call and sound as good? I might try the new GK guts in it yet.

Yeah, That does suck! I talked to him last year. Picked up a DieHard Justifier from him. Sweet Little call ,with Big Sound!
As far as Goose Calls go, Gary at Committed makes a Fine Call. He's finishing up a Coco Cutdown for me.
You should check him out.
So, if you stick with somebody on your list--Gander Valley would be a good choice. Have heard good things about his calls.

X2 on the committed custom calls if you are looking for something truly custom. I don't have much experience with the other calls you mentioned other than lynch mob, and I wasn't a huge fan of it for me but a lot of people love them. Let us know what you decide.
