Tim Grounds supermag cork?

Postby mjhuey » Sat Apr 06, 2013 7:21 pm

I picked up a old hedge supermag with the cork insert instead of o-rings. I was wondering if anybody has owned these and has some feedback on them. I've had several supermags with o-ring inserts, but have never owned the cork style. I've looked for one for several years now and finally picked one up!

What do you want to know? I have owned 12-15 cork supermags. The cork dryrots and splits very qucikly after use. Most of them are just collectors. Some came with Cluckers (Clear or Black) some are Deep Drop guts which are what are in his Super Mags now. There were only a few colors and a few woods. However, there are hundreds out there and not very hard to find.

The first one I ever saw had cork rather than O rings. It was hard to keep the insert and barrel together due to cork shrinkage, I assume.

My favorite SM is a cork maple. Love it and have had no problems at all. Been my best call for 15 years.

I like the cork better myself. I got some clarinet cork grease, it's supposed to help keep the cork from drying up.

Thanks bud, I actually starting putting a little dab around the insert of my rnt duck calls, it seems to help them from sticking together due to swelling.
