i have a board with pegs in it that i store my calls on in the off season and the reed got knocked out of my meat grinder :pissed: and i do not know how to tune a short reed (or blow one all the great for that matter)
so if one of you guys could take a picture of yours with the barrel out so i could somewhat know where the reed sits it would be GREATLY appreciated
thanks alot guys, Pat.

take the reed and put it on the back board make sure that the tip of the reed barly slides into the indented part then place the wedge half inch from the tip

On my SMH I have the top of the wedge placed on the backboard right where it breaks. Once in place push the (guts) into the insert. You might have to play with it a little, but its not that hard
Make sure the reed just barely fits in the backboard. Simply push down on it and see if it goes in.
Hope this helps
Did I call the shot?
