New Decoys - Big Al's Greaters

Postby atlanticwaterfowler » Tue Jul 31, 2012 5:51 pm

Just received my order from Big Al. 2 dozen greaters, very nice decoys and with my 24 GHGs should make a nice spread.

Fantastic product and a great guy! I can't wait to run my Big Al's silos again this fall. For those of you on the fence about these decoys, I can tell you that I ran and reviewed them for the sister site's members last season, before I ever thought about staffing for Al. I was very impressed with the decoys and even more so with the inventer/owner of the company. A truly nice guy, with a passion for waterfowl hunting. If you're thinking of running silos, give Big Al's "Take 'em" Silhouettes a good, hard look. You won't be diappointed!

As the season gets closer, his orders ARE going to pick up..point being ya don't want to be waiting for the mail man on opening day

Those do look really good mixed in with those shells. I have a dozen flocked a need to flock a few more dozen that are on the way.
Al is crazy busy right now, but still maintains to send the simplest "check in" emails. I can't wait to watch the honkers reaction to these in a couple weeks!

Anyone in Northwest WI have some of the greaters I could take a look at? I'd like to pick up a dozen, but I'd like to see some before I drop the hammer, and I can't seem to find any at any of the local sporting goods stores...

That's because Al is a Web only dealer as of now. I believe one of our other staffers is actually a sales hub for them in the mid west. I'll check and see who, but if you go to the sister site, goosehuntingchat.com, you can see about avery angle possible on them in the decoy threads on them and all the positive reviews and comments. You can also contact Al directly for a free sample still I believe. The birds we have here for the early season have been VERY ANTI_SOCIAL but the birds we've put on the ground have all wanted right in the spreads if that means anything to you. Take a look on the Big Al's Decoys web site (there is a banner at the top of both DHC and GHC site pages too as he is a sponsor of the sites. You won't be disappointed!

All pics are courtesy of DSM16428's field review on goose hunting chat. The one pic with the real geese comparison is from Goose hunting chat also. The one with the carnage is from one of my hunts using Big Al's. Its a 3 man limit

Here some pics, they were taken to purposely try to get a glare. No one should run the silo's at a 45º angle. But this is showing how they would glare if they are setup wrong into the sun. Flocking also helps the glare on the black, I noticed that the only time I really get a glare is in the early morning, right as the sun is coming up. If I have any that arent angled correctly. I always angle my EAST facing silo's in the morning a little towards the sun, cuts down the little bit of glare there is.

If you have any more questions please dont hesitate to ask.

Used them on about 6-7 shoots so far, no problems with glare

The ones I reviewed were great! Yes, they washed out a bit in EXTREMELY BRIGHT sun light, at very acute angles as any silo would but glare was a non-issue. The heads and tails on the newer ones Al has out are even better and look even darker and more rich black color. By next year I'll be running bw 12-14 dozen mixed honkers and lessers. For the money, imo and experience, Big Al's silhouettes are without doubt, the best bang for your buck out there. Give Al a call at the number on the site or pm me and we can talk about them if you want.
