DC yes and no the first band i got was the mallard hen last season. her's the story, for mallards came and favored my side of the blind. i shot once at a drake and killed him dead. then i looked up and saw a hen laying on the water as well, she was only crippled.

the other band was a drake mallard by itself

there was only one time when 1 shot = 2 ducks

i couldn't believe i had done it either

Banded birds - ducks, geese etc. are birds that have a metal or plastic band around thier ankle or neck (geese). These bands are placed for various reasons. Including, but not limited to determining migration routes, age, and overall well being of the individual bird and habitat.
Banding can and has been done on indvidual, organizational, and governmental levels.

Bands tend to be quite rare in the grand scheme of things...so to get a bird that is banded is too. Most people keep the bands to themselves and torphies or keepsakes. Some go the distnace to report the band and thereby help to complete the research on that individual bird.

For one of the more renowned persons in banding check this out: http://www.jackminer.com/

Postby honkersRus » Sun Mar 26, 2006 7:47 pm

i havent shot any but when i was at a waterfowl camp, at the end of the camp we went through and shook the instuctors hands. Well when i was my turn i went through and when i got to the calling instructor he looked down and told me to take this it was a duck band. Not thinking anything of it i kept going thinking everyone got one. But when i got back to my table i showed it to my buddy he said he didnt get one. So what should i do with it.

The numbers one it are.

Next year will be around 15 seasons and still no bands. Last year I killed over 120 birds with no bands. So dont get discouraged If you dont kill one, because you may be like me and never kill one.

Postby locopuro18 » Thu Apr 27, 2006 2:05 pm

i havent gotten any on geese but the mallards and gadwall seem to be the ones with the bands for me, i have 2 bands from gadwall out in summer lake, eastern oregon and 3 from mallards, sauvie island oregon, one hen and 2 drakes. my partner and i shot at some ducks and dropped 3 of them but one was still flying so i loaded another shell and took a long shot, it took me almost an hour to find the duck in the middle of a bunch of blackberry bushes, i guess it was worth it

I've got 10 years of hunting under my belt and still no bands, my dad has shot a couple bands, But not in the 10 years i've been hunting with him. I guess we're going through a dry spell, I got my hopes up for this year though.
