Decoys make me mad?

Postby MossyMallard12 » Wed Mar 07, 2012 7:44 am

What makes me mad is that GHG (and all the other big decoy companies) makes the best looking field goose decoys I've ever seen and people like me can't afford them. I would like to have a couple dozen of them. When I get field or new decoys I have to buy them myself, mommy and daddy won't buy them for me. My dad is a major duck and goose hunter, and he helps me, he's got like 150-200 duck and geese water decoys that I can use but I'm going to be hunting a lot of alfalfa and corn fields for ducks and geese, he's bought 3 goose molds and we are going to make some decoys but they wont look as good as the top brand decoy. but i'm still excited about the decoys, it'll save me $$$ in the long run.

just buy hot buy mallards. you can get 2 or 3 doz for $50 or $60. Even if they only last a season or 2 youronly out $50. I think they look just about as good as the top of the line brands out of the box. they just dont hold up.

Always can find some used and paint em' up or buy the "Hot Buy" decoys. If you really want a good decoy that is priced good I would definitely look at Higdon or Bigfoot. Well worth the money and the birds eat em' up!!

you could probably use the water decoys for the field if you balance them right. And in the snow just stick to floater thing right in the snow

First, you are absolutely right. The process and technology that goes into making a decoy, is the same as a summer sand pail for a kid and they are a buck.....
You gotta put the word out for birthdays and Christmas that you want gear.
Tell them exactly what you want, give them the page etc if you have to.
You will accumulate deeks quickly.

big x2 on that! last year my girl got me a new set of Cabela's waders and I'll get the MST drake pants from her for my birthday friday! :grooving:

usually get a few gift cards that I put towards ammo, decoys, or the such for christmas. I also look very hard for deals, and every year I have a buddy who works the Cabela's fall classic thing every year and he gets employee discount on everything so I shoot some cash his way and thats how I pick up a lot of gear. Cabela's coat, layout blind, goose decoys, and a few other things
