It is a great gun, just be sure you get all of the packing grease out of it and oil it good. After that, mine hasnt failed yet.

Will do. I hope it's the right choice for a strictly waterfowl/turkey gun that will be shooting a majority of heavy loads. It shouldered alot better than the maxus in the store and my grandad used one of his 4 auto 5's back in the days of lead, so I want to relive that in a way. . Waiting for the 3 1/2 version to become available.

If you have been shooting an Auto 5 the A5 will shoot differently. My Auto 5 shoots dead on but you will have to aim under your target with the A5. Mine has taken lots of heavy abuse so far and has handled it greatly. I shot some of the heaviest 3" shells I could find this season and it did fine. Gonna use it for some turkeys in April.

been doing a little.... hated the grip/ forend that came with the stock I got for my 870 came with, so I go the Magpul forend! I'll be honest I thought it looked pretty goofy until I saw it in person and on the gun! now my play/ protection gun is almost finished! Also you can add a ton of Magpul parts to the forend!

Just shot one of those Rock Islands today! Shoots real nice. But when my cousin shot it, she didn't have a strong enough grip on it. After she fired it, the recoil made her wrist move back along with the slide, which made it not have enough force to feed the next bullet completely into the chamber. Just make sure you've got a good, strong grip on it and you wouldn't have this problem. You'll love it!

Oh, and I've got a Remington 700 in .243.

However, I want to sell it and get a bigger caliber. I'm thinking 30-06, or .308. What do y'all think?

And when I get my next paycheck, I'm going to get a new shotgun. I've been using my dad's old 870 forever, and I want an autoloader. I'm thinking a maxus or an SX3.... I can get the SX3 for about $300+ cheaper though..

The 243 is fine for shooting deer what else would you want to hunt? I'd go with a .308 if you still want a bigger bullet.

funny enough my cousin had one and he had the same problem before he got some good training.

Luckily I was able to fork up the cash on the gun at a gun show, get my mom to do papers on it (since I'm not 21 yet) and she can legally gift it to me. and the law here in Missouri is going to lower the CCW law age to 19 years old so I am going to do that! :grooving:

I know .243 is big enough to take down a deer. I've taken down a good few since I've had it. But it's mainly just because I'd like to have a bigger caliber for the hell of it, y'know? I think I will go with the .308. Thanks.

That's nice. In VA, like in most states, it's 18 to open carry, 21 CCW, buy a handgun, and buy ammunition for a handgun. However, it's the same with the gifting, I think (otherwise, how would you OC at 18? :lol3: )

Anyway, it's a real nice gun. Hope you like it!

So far I love it! feels natural in my hands and I have 300rds of FMJ's waiting to be shot!

I've also been slipping on to some online sellers and buy my .45 ammo online, and can also find it cheaper usually.

Also for your deer gun I also suggest .308 I got mine back in Jan. and have around 100rds through it! It's an extremely accurate round due to the ballistic coefficients, so it comes down to the shooter. with reloads I have no problem with a 3 shot group touching at 100yds and about a 3in group at 200yds.

here are my .308 reloads/ loads Nosler 165gr bullets, an I think 46gr of RL17 powder. I also plan to start reloading some .45 ammo when I get some brass collected and buy the dies.

Actually the .308 and the .30-06 are ballistically really close. Comes down to the rifle really. If you like the rifle but its a '06 I would buy it anyways.
