My daughter started at 10yrs old and she was about 70lbs. First year was a rem 1100LT 20ga youth short that we borrowed. This was the really light one they made a long time ago.
Couldn't find one that was that light in the used markets, but while we were at the gun dealer, she wanted to try the Franchi 20ga semi. Man was this thing light! (3.2lbs)
She could swing it with ease and the new ones reduce the recoil using benelli recoil technology.
So there was my issue, my daughter wanted to hunt, I couldn't find a gun that she could easily shoot and swing till the $800 Franchi, and I was 30 before I got my first new gun...
Of course - I bought it. She will have it her entire life and now she isn't worried about recoil and she can swing the gun up for ducks, skeet and upland birds. She loves it and is becoming a great shot with it.
Just the drakes everyone... Take Um...
