Feral Hogs in Virginia

Postby WildlifeDisease » Tue Sep 22, 2009 8:00 am

Hello Folks:

Anyone planning on hunting hogs in Virginia? We have more than many folks realize and quite a bit of my work (besides waterfowl disease) revolves around feral hog disease surveillance. If someone is fairly certain that they are going to be successful (using bay dogs, etc.) I would love to meet up with you and draw blood samples from the hogs harvested. We use the blood collected to test for several disease that can impact other wildlife, livestock, and people. The most organized hog hunts are down at Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and False Cape State Park. I will be down there for those hunts. Other hog populations are in SW VA and Cumberland and Culpeper Counties in central VA.

Thanks!
