winter deer trails

Postby tonyt57 » Sun Jan 24, 2010 3:53 pm

Any thoughts on deer movementin winter vs spring? They don't yard up where I am,Ma, but as I scout now I am in a swampy area with islands and lots of sign on and between the islands. I will get some cameras up soon, but I was wondering if the deer are using these areas now due to frozen ground or will they continue to use them in the fall?

I'm in a similar situation in Wisconsin. 50 acres of swamp in the backyard. The deer deafiantley move all over it when it freezes, the big groups of does use it all winter long for quick access to the food. Once it melts in the spring the deer dont use it because there is too much water. Throughout the spring and summer the bucks lay close to the winter wheat, then the alflafa, then the beans, once september rolls around the local big boy claims the heart of the swamp which is practially unhuntable unless its a dry winter.
