Southern IL buck

Postby Coh-Brook » Mon Nov 22, 2010 10:08 am

killed a decent main frame 9pt on friday (opening day of IL shotgun season)... Not my biggest buck, but I think he might have the most mass of any of my deer so far. Prob shoulda let him live another year, but my hunting opportunities this year are almost exclusively for ducks, so I had to take an opportunity for some jerkey meat.

yeah, its always a tough question whether to let em walk or not... seems like me and my dad always kill deer about this same size, upper 120s to mid 130s... sometimes we let them walk then never see them again. For several years we would let them walk if they were not bigger than one we had the wall already, but we just wouldnt see them after 4 years of age and someone else would kill them. lol

Im in the exact same boat. I let a 135-140 ten point go on saturday night (I had the crosshairs on him, saftey off). Now if i was bowhunting, I would have shot him in the face and then partied like hell, but I just don't get real stoked about blowing one over with the rifle anymore. I hope he makes it, he'll be a haus next year. I'm glad I let him walk but it would have been nice to get bloody for once. Nice deer! Nothing wrong with that!
