Hog Hunting

Postby Duck Collector » Sun Apr 29, 2012 9:11 pm

So im planning on trying to do some hog huntin' this year and im trying to figure out what caliber to use. I have a AR-15 but it's a sig and it weighs like 20 pounds had has a sniper of a scope on it, its great for 300+ yards in a blind but it never really happens that way...im looking for something small and light weight that I can drag threw the south texas brush and still have a punch anywhere from 25-75 yards. Anybody have any good recomendations?
Thanks

Buy a 6.8 spc upper for your AR. All the power you need for hogs. I bought one with a 16" barrel. You should only need the upper, and a low power scope and you are in business. Good luck.

I have shot 2 wild hogs, both with a 12 gauge slug. It was more than adequate to do the job.

Lever action .30-.30 open sights... Best brush gun in my opinion... Has punch, quick follow up shots, and moves well in cover

The lever action 30/30 is a good choice. We hunt hogs every week, I finally got me a designated hog gun. A mossberg 500 slug gun. 20ga. open sights, ported barrell. Works well on hogs out to about 100 yards. Pump and open sights allow for quick follow up shots, and porting really helps with muzzle jump.
