Do you use a deer call?

I use them all depending on what part of the season it is.

Rattling is in another post. I guess I probably sould have included it in with calling but then someone would have said what about using scents, I should have just done this as who uses attractants of any kind to hunt deer.

I snort wheezed at a HUGE deer that was feeding in a field one night. Mid November. My wife was working at a nursing home and she and the other nurses were out smoking and I said "hey, watch this" (famous last words). That deer closed the hundred yards so fast it was scary! He ran STRAIGHT to me! He was within 10 yards staring at me. I was right out in the open so I croutched behind a lone bush about two feet high. I'm telling you guys, I was really scared, almost pissed down both legs! He was ticked off! He stomped both front feet a few times, at the same time, almost like a false charge and snorted back at me. I consider it one of the stupidest things I've ever done. About thirty seconds into it, he turned around and walked, not ran, back to the does in the field.

well ive been with people who call but ive never tried it because im scared it will be hit or miss and could spook the deer. I normally come out of the season with a smile and some venison. but do yall notice a big impact on calling

Last year in November I used a can doe bleat and called in a 7 point on the 25 and the next day at the same time called in a 10 pt. But that is the only time I have ever had that thing work for me. For sure going to try it again in mid november.

I wouldn't go to the woods without at least one call. I've got three types in my bag and a rattle bag. It works like a charm.

The best time to use rattling IMO is during the pre rut or staging period as this is when the bucks are setting up their pecking order. They don't usally sneak in at this time of the season, its here I am and lets do battle.

I've been rattleing in bucks and does for over a week now and our rut isn't for another 2 weeks. I agree with the previous post about pre-rut as the best time to rattle. They all wanna know who is scrappin' with who on the block.
