Uggies and Duskys

A trip to our local mountains for grouse. Our dogs worked to perfection as well as our Uggies. Afternoon hail forced us off too early.

What we used to know as the Blue Grouse has been divided into two distinct birds; the Sooty and the Dusky. To me, they both sound delicious.

Ill post some pics of the 2 I shot today. The blue grouse is almost 2-3 times larger. In the pic that are posted are those all ruffed grouse?

In oregon they are called ruffed...are they the same bird there with different name? The one on the right is a blue grouse....? It has feathers all the way down the legs and they end at the feet. The other has feathers just to the mid leg. Thanks for the help trying to learn the species.
