It will MOST diffentaly work, that was my first dove gun and i did quite well with it and also used a single shot 20 guage. I use a 12 now more shots mean more bird or more empty hulls depending on how u look at it.

i use an old jc higgins 16ga that was given to me years ago, its hard to find any kind of ammo without ordering over the internet but its a reliable gun and i have killed lots of dove with. if you could find an old fox, jc higgins, or sears that would be good enough for dove and wouldnt cost an arm and leg. some might say that they are crap but alot of them were built buy some of the major companies umpteen years ago.

Anything will work depending on the situation. Some like light and fast guns but I kind of like medium weight. A 410 is Ok and I have done well with one but you have to pick your shots, and have the right choke and load or you are bound to have a lot of bad hits or now hits. I really don't like anything less than a 28 for general shooting and the 20 is about as small as I go if I really want to gun them down. That’s a fast challenging bird when they are stirred up and a 410 is an expert’s gun on a target like that. Now if you are patient and setting tight in a good feed area or using decoys they will fly right up and you can pop them just fine with a 410. It’s all relative with the doves.
More ammo! I need to shoot something!

FMy favorite was my browning upland special 20ga. But my friends shoot .410s

I went back to all 12ga's I don't wound much anymore.
Have you ever woke up one day and said. Damn when does the season start.

that .410 will do the trick, but like someone said, its an expert gun. you have a minimal amount of shot at typically lower velocity shooting at a small darting target. you may get really frustrated with the 410.

i have one shotgun, its a 12 ga, i use it on everything i shoot.

having said that, i'm in the market for a 20 ga o/u (probably a yildiz) for just this, dove and quail. light, and fast swinging.
