Postby Droberts » Fri Jun 29, 2012 6:55 pm

Hey guys, Im new to the forum and to planting for dove. When is the best time to plant brown top millet? I live in south ms, I planted half of my field in sunflowers in May and they are growin like crazy they should be ready around openin day Im wanting to plant the other half in millet if its not to late. Can anyone tell me how long it takes for it to come up and mature enough to be cut? Thanks in advance.

The full growth cycle is 90 days for brown top millet with the seeds maturing in 45-60 days. At this point you'd be looking at early October for it to mature if you planted now. You might consider waiting and planting in a month or so to have it mature for a Thanksgiving hunt...but you are a month late for the opening season around Labor Day.
