i just bough a primos turkey call, slate, do i have to worry about ruinning the top of it or can i sand it however much i please? its NOT a crystal type, and it only sounds good with certain strikers, so should i sand it or no?

Sand as much as you need to to achieve the sound you want. Sanding mainly is to remove dirt and oils from your game bag or hands. You know you don't use the hole slate to call with so really you only need to sand one side or corner of the slate BUT I'd say since you just bought it sand the whole thing and test out the whole area as some sides may sound different to you.
