Depth/Fishfinder installation question

Postby bstrandon » Sun Aug 07, 2011 11:00 pm

I'm installing a used Garmin 240 finder on my 16' fishing and ducking jon boat. I know that if I need to I can cut and splice the power cable to the unit, but can the 20' factory transducer cable be cut and spliced? I only need about 3-4 feet of transducer cable.
Is this transducer wire just like any electrical wiring, or is it something special that I am not familiar with??

Any help is appreciated!

Power & ground can Becky to fit. Make sure to fuse the power side with a 3amp fuse.

The transducer shouldn't be spliced, roll it up nicely and zip tie it. Stash it somewhere hidden.

Also look into a small RAM mount so you can move the screen in different directions!

Thank you B-N-D. I figured if I only need a few feet, maybe I could cut it.

Another thing I wondered was if i would waste less power if I only had 4 feet of transducer cable compared to 20'. I'm sure it would be a small amount of battery life (if any) but it seems like it would take less battery to run 4' instead of 20'.
I'll take your word for it though, and I'll just roll the excess cable up.

Thanks!
