what kind of fishing are you doing (Bank, Boat) do you need a rod for casting out to a deep channel or a rod to pull them out of log jams...

although a little more than 100 but definately worth the extra 50 would be a shimano baitrunner or okuma epixor bait runner equipped with an ugly stick rod. the shimano in a 6500 can be had for about 110 and the okuma for 80 and an ugly stick for 40-50. they work very well for large catfish, drum, stripers, you name it.

I'm a HUGH abu fan so i'm going to have to go with a yes on the combo buy although i dont understand why you feel the need to put 50# test on it. Your putting a lot of strain on the reel for one, why don't you just put some bait on the end of a rope and use it. Just me but 20 to 30 is more than enough. Anyhow happy fishing
