What tó buy?

Postby don taylor » Thu Jun 26, 2008 8:07 pm

I'm looking for a reel for both saltwater and for turtles. I want something durable and able to be spooled with 30# plus line. I'm thinking a Shimano Baitrunner 6500 or a similar Penn reel. I understand the Z series are no longer metal and was wondering how they hold up. If anyone had a suggestion I would love to hear it. What brands and models are good? My Mitchells are pretty worn and were never made for the salt anyways. I'm looking to spend around $100 or so. Thanks.

Old post, I dont know if your still looking, BUT...

you cant go wrong with a Abu 6500 it'll catch anything from stripers, salmon shark, tuna, and even turtles.
For rods I've really come to like the shiamono Clarus, great rods. life time warranty and I've put em thru the test.
Prolly looking at about 150 bucks for the combo. the claras run about 70 bucks, with the 6500 close to that.
