White perch fishing

Postby LI Black Duck » Tue Feb 24, 2009 7:52 pm

Does anyone else like to go white perch fishing? How do you guys fish for them? What is your favorite bait? I use just a spit shot and size 6 hook fished on the bottom. I use killies and nightcrawlers. I cant wait for them to start biting.

I troll with spinners tipped with worms. Easy pickins in some lakes, not very fun to catch, but boy they taste good.

Just a case of yanks vs. southerners. I thought that might be the case that they call a different fish a white perch up there. This is what we call white perch.

In Texas they are Crappie too. I do find some old timers calling them white perch, but they are Crappie.

But they are not the sunfish family which includes all that you have listed except the perch is centrarchidae. the perch belongs to percldae. So there we have it not even the in the same family. the perchs scientific name is perca flavescens and the crappie is pomoxis nigromaculatus that is the black crappie which is the same except it has a little darker color did not feel like writeing both black and white down. Not that it really matters but it is -17 here and i am board as hell.
